FREE Printable: Personal Daily Goal Chart {The Chart WE Use!}

April 7, 2017 by Allie Leave a Comment

I can’t wait to share with you my FREE Printable Personal Daily Goal Chart!

This is the daily goal chart I designed for my family it is the only goal chart I personally use! Setting personal goals is hard work. I know. I’ve spent nearly all of my adult years raising my kids and trying to teach them to set their own goals. As they’ve gotten older, I am now trying to teach my kids to not only set goals, but to also prioritize…which is a whole new animal to tame.

This year I began using “Goal Charts” to not only make daily goal setting fun for me, but also to help my kids visualize and complete their own goals on a daily basis–whether those goals are completing homework, doing house and farm chores, or physical fitness.

personal daily goals chart

I’ve designed my FREE Printable Personal Daily Goal Chart to allow for flexibility. You can hang it up on the wall in a protective sleeve, add your goal chart to a personal 3-ring binder, or you can do what I personally do and use 2 x 2 sticky notes to write goals on and then adhere them to the boxes I designed just for this purpose. As I complete goals during the day, I simply remove the sticky notes to start with fresh goals each new day. Note: You’ll want to put your goal chart in a protective sleeve if you use sticky notes.

Here’s a sample of my own daily goals:

  • Plan dinner
  • Finish craft project for work
  • Clean house
  • Organize bedroom
  • Buy sweet feed for goats
  • Research easy chicken coop plans
  • Plant garden

Anyone who knows me knows that *I love sticky notes*! My ADD brain LOVES visual organization. It’s like my chaotic scribbled crayon thoughts are magically sorted into a proper rainbow of ideas. Post-It notes for the win! My love of sticky notes inspired the design of my personal daily goals chart. Here’s how to download my FREE Printable Personal Daily Goal Chart:

I love good a barbecue sauce when I’m grilling meat. What’s wonderful about my barbecue sauce is that it even tastes great and imparts a smoky grilled flavor when baking. This BBQ sauce recipe tastes wonderful with ribs, pork chops, and even chicken. Try it on all your favorite grilled meats.

For as long as I can remember I have loved barbecues. My love affection with grilled meat began when I was a young girl going to barbecues with family, at friend’s homes, and even at church functions. When someone brought home a bag of those black briquettes, I knew my favorite meal was on the way. I hope you love this smoky BBQ recipe as much as I do! Here’s how to make Texas Style Barbecue Sauce:

Texas Style BBQ Sauce Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups ketchup
  • 1/4 cup mustard
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon molasses
  • 2 teaspoons liquid smoke
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup dried minced onion
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoons ground white pepper

Directions:

The first thing you want to do is find a medium saucepan that will fit all of the ingredients. I’m all about less dishes to wash so mixing all of your ingredients together to make this homemade BBQ sauce inside the saucepan you are going to cook it in just makes sense.

Next, you guessed it, add all of the ingredients into the saucepan.

Give it a good stir.

Now heat over low heat for fifteen to twenty minutes, stirring frequently.

Remove from heat. At this point, you can allow the barbeque sauce to cool and then send it through a blender if you like a smooth barbecue sauce. I leave mine chunky.

Makes about four cups of barbecue sauce. Preserve in a water bath or refrigerate. Baste hamburgers, ribs, chicken, and porkchops with my Texas Style BBQ Sauce recipe.

Trouble | John 16:33

April 2, 2017 by Allie Leave a Comment

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

spring blossoms trouble jesus

If only Jesus had promised us an effortless existence free of trouble, but He didn’t. In fact, quite the opposite – He guarantees that we will have trouble. He promises trials, storms, and times of brokenness. We shouldn’t be surprised, really, as the Bible is stacked with repeated warnings like that of 1 John 2:17, which tells us that the world is passing away along with its desires.

Trouble comes with the territory.

Christ doesn’t displace hard times. He offers the way above them, and the promise of a future beyond them.

Portuguese Potato and Kale Soup with Butternut

March 21, 2017 by Allie Leave a Comment

I love making Portuguese Potato and Kale Soup with Butternut because it allows me to use my winter vegetables I’ve been storing from the previous year. Honestly, this soup is great to make year round and I love that it includes healthful ingredients that my family loves like butternut squash, red potatoes, kale, and bacon. Bacon. Everything is better with bacon!

Be sure to check out my Basil Pesto Recipe with Sun Dried Tomatoes that I made for lunch. It was so good that my kids almost didn’t get any!

The first time I had Portuguese Potato and Kale Soup wasn’t too long ago and was because I walked in on my friend and her family having dinner again. It seems like I’m always showing up to her place for dinner…and I’m so glad I did that time. This healthy soup is super easy to make and tastes delicious. I was even told by another friend that it is a paleo diet friendly recipe. It’s also another way that we’re able to use all of the parts of the animals we raise, because when I make it I use homemade broth from our “rooster camp.” Here’s how to make Portuguese Potato and Kale Soup with Butternut:

Portuguese Potato and Kale Soup with Butternut

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound bacon
  • 1 large butternut squash, peeled, cubed, and seeds removed
  • 2 cups red potatoes, washed and cubed, about 5 medium
  • 6 cups fresh kale, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 6 cups water
  • 4-6 Tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 Tablespoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt, to taste

Directions:

In a medium soup pot fry bacon until crispy, being mindful not to overcook. Remove bacon from pot, but leave drippings. Set bacon aside to add in later.

Over medium heat, add onions and saute just until they soften and begin to look translucent.

Add washed and chopped red potatoes.

Then, add chopped and peeled butternut squash.

Continue to cook in bacon drippings for around 10 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally. The butternut and potatoes will begin to soften at this point. Do not allow vegetables to burn–turn heat down, if necessary.

Add chili powder, oregano, and garlic powder.

That bacon you set aside earlier? Chop it up and add it to the soup along with the fresh, chopped kale. Top with broth and water. You can add a little more water or broth at this point depending on how soupy you want your Portuguese Potato and Kale Soup with Butternut to be. Add salt, to taste.

Cover pot and cook for 25 minutes. Potatoes and butternut should be soft and that is how you’ll know your soup is done. Remove from heat.

Stir your pot…of soup that is…and serve once it has cooled down a little bit. I served my soup with fresh corn tortillas.

Hope your family loves this soup as much as my family does!
