Transformed by God: Lumps of Clay

February 5, 2017 by Allie Leave a Comment

This post is about being transformed by God. If you enjoyed this devotional, please consider supporting our guest author, Jeremy Mark Lane, by purchasing these other books from him — Everything Beautiful: And Other Stories and While I’m Still Myself (a personal favorite).

brand new start transformed by god

The Lord gave another message to Jeremiah. He said, “Go down to the potter’s shop, and I will speak to you there.” So I did as he told me and found the potter working at his wheel. But the jar he was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so he crushed it into a lump of clay again and started over. – Jeremiah 18:1-4

Becoming a “lump of clay” is a painful experience. It’s otherwise known as “rock bottom.” If we aren’t pursuing the good things God has for us, He will often allow things to filter through to us that get our attention, that rattle us, that bring us low. He loves us too much to let us avoid the consequences of poor choices. However, the never-ending hope is found in the final three words: “and started over.”

God will always allow us to start over. It’s not punishment…it’s a brand new start.

4:30 AM | An Excerpt from Mile Markers

October 16, 2016 by Allie Leave a Comment

This post is about being present to God through prayer. It is an excerpt from an upcoming book titled Mile Markers by Jeremy Mark Lane. If you enjoyed this devotional, please consider supporting this author by purchasing these other books from him — Everything Beautiful: And Other Stories and While I’m Still Myself (a personal favorite).

430 mile markers prayer to god

It’s 4:30 AM.

Somewhere a baby is sleeping. Somewhere a single mother is lying awake, asking God how she’s going to pay the rent. Somewhere a man is leaving for work. Somewhere a woman is coming home from work. Somewhere people are driving. Somewhere a woman sits on her porch and sips coffee. Somewhere a man is praying. Somewhere a student is studying under the light of a lamp. Somewhere people are stretching, running, lifting, pushing their bodies. Somewhere kids are singing. Somewhere kids are crying.

And as for you…

God is asking for your presence. Asking you to meet Him, to talk with Him.

Don’t waste the opportunity.

Get up and go.

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on Him while he is near. – Isaiah 55:6

My prayer is to never get numb to the reach of God, to never go deaf to His call. I want to hear Him, and I want to meet with Him every day. I want to seek His face and seek His hand. I want to walk with Him at all times, to not waste a single step.

I ask it in the holy name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
